Boardman Youth Wrestling

Participants will learn basic fundamentals in wrestling.  Cost includes instruction, shirt, supplemental health insurance and league entrance fees.  Each child will wrestle against children their own size, age, and experience level.  The program is designed for fun, exercise, and competitive experience.  Children will compete against other wrestling programs from surrounding areas.  All matches will occur on Sundays from late November to late January.  The program begins Monday November 5th and finishes with our Boardman Open Tournament in March.

RECOMMENDED GEAR

For practice sessions T-shirts, shorts, sweats, headgear, tennis shoes, or wrestling shoes are appropriate.

Mouth guards are recommended.  All wrestlers must carry a gym bag to all practices and matches to put outside clothes in.  It is recommended that each wrestler give his gym bag to his parents to hold while at Canfield High School for the Sunday matches.

1.    It is each wrestler’s responsibility to get and take care of his own headgear.

2.   Hair must be a maximum of collar length.  If hair is longer than collar length, a skullcap must be worn or the wrestler will not be allowed to compete.  "Tails" are include in this requirement.

3.   All participants are required to bring two pair of shoes to all wrestling practices and matches.  One pair is to be used as "outdoor" shoes.  The second pair of shoes should be cleaned as "indoor" shoes.  Anyone caught wearing "outdoor" shoes on the mats will be asked to remove their shoes.  Dirt and grit carried onto the mat from shoes gets clothes dirty and knees and elbows sore.

4.   Suggested practice clothes include shorts and T-shirts.  During the winter, sweat pants and shirts may be worn for practice but are not recommended.  Sweats CANNOT be worn for matches.  Singlets will not be worn for practice sessions.

5.   Wrestling Singlets are available for use in all matches.  We are offering singlets for use, not purchase.  This entitles a wrestler to get a singlet that fits for use at each week’s match.  It will be the wrestler's responsibility to take care of the equipment he is loaned.   Parents of each wrestler will be charged $50 if a singlet is lost or destroyed.  NO EXCEPTIONS!    Our equipment is excellent condition.  It should return in the same condition.  Singlets are only to be used in our league matches on Sundays.

6.    Practices are open to all parents to watch, although space is limited.  Any parents wishing to assist needs no prior knowledge of wrestling.  With 50+ kids in our growing program, your help handling the children can be helpful in maintaining order in the room.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.  Parents wishing to stay for the entire practice are urged to leave other children at home.  All parents should find a place to sit either in the wrestling rooms or in the center entrance hallway between the rooms.

 9.     Parents are not permitted on the floor or the mats during matches.  Please don't put us in a position where we must ask you to remove yourself to the stands.  We understand your desire to be close to the mat so that you can see better and offer encouragement.  Everyone wants to do this.  It causes chaos on the floor and will only serve to confuse your children while we are trying to coach them.  Cheer for them loudly from the stands but please, leave it to us on the mats.

10. Every one of you will have a practice schedule.  Get the kids there in advance of starting times so they are ready to start on time.  Please come to pick the kids up promptly at the close of practice.  Come early if possible so we can all leave on time.

11. Everyone is encouraged to attend the high school and middle schools matches.

We’re all looking forward to another successful season and watching the kids learn and grow.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dom Mancini via email.

We are able to have this program thanks to Boardman High School and The Boardman School Board. We expect anyone related to our program to respect this facilities just as they would respect their own home.
